The Division of Water Pollution Control develops and implements programs to prevent or clean-up the pollution of surface and ground water in Massachusetts. The division, in accordance with MGLA c 21, ss 42, 44 (St 1966, c 685), as well as its immediate predecessor in this function have had the authority to require corrective actions where violations of the conditions set by its certifications, licenses, and permits have occured, and to levy fines on violators. Files are created to order compliance.
